A small table vase built from a single twisting profile. Twelve rounded ribs run from the base to the rim, turning a little as they rise, so the outside looks different from every angle. From above, the opening is a twelve-point star.
What the photos show
The vase is printed in one piece in bright blue. The layer lines are fine and even, so the curved ribs read as smooth surfaces rather than steps. Looking down into it, the wall is thin and follows the star outline all the way down, which keeps it light while still holding a bunch of stems.
On the shelf it holds a mixed bunch of artificial flowers, next to a white faceted pot.
Why this shape suits 3D printing
A twisted, ribbed body like this is awkward to make by moulding or turning but simple for a 3D printer: each layer is the same star outline, rotated a little further than the one below. The same file can be scaled up for a floor vase or down for a pen pot, and printed in other colours.
