Hatikamrul Interchange 4 ft × 4 ft scale model for the Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Bangladesh

The Hatikamrul Interchange in Sirajganj is a modified cloverleaf where the routes from Dhaka meet the roads to the north and north-west of Bangladesh. The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) wanted it as a 4 ft × 4 ft presentation model, and PrototypeBD took the job from the first CAD line to the last tree.

What the model shows

The road network is the heart of it: the main carriageways, the two loop ramps, the flyovers on rows of slim piers and the slip roads that tie them together. Around it sit the site details the post lists: water bodies, a service building with its ponds, solar panel arrays inside the loops, lamp posts, trees and blocks of village housing along a winding river.

How it was built

The whole job stayed in one workshop: 3D design, 3D printing, finishing, painting, detailing, landscaping and final assembly. One photo shows the printed road network on its own, before it meets the landscape, which makes clear how much of the model is printed structure rather than scenery. The ramps are printed in pale grey with lane markings picked out in yellow, and the elevated decks stand on individual printed piers.

A model at this size has one job: let a room full of people understand how traffic moves through the junction without opening a drawing.
