A client asked us for a customized rechargeable fan prototype built to their exact requirements. We designed the parts, 3D printed them and assembled the fan so it could be tried as a working product.
The printed parts
- A five-blade rotor with curved blades and a central hub
- Two ventilated motor cages with slots for airflow
- Two outer housings, one rounded-square and one octagonal
The photos show each part in black and orange.
From parts to a working fan
The last photo shows the printed rotor and orange motor housing fitted behind a wire guard on a stand. A prototype like this lets the client check airflow, fit around the motor and battery, and the look of the product before paying for moulds.
The blades are the hardest part to get right: they are thin, curved and must stay balanced at speed. Printing them means the blade angle or count can be changed and tested again quickly.
