Medieval castle on a rock, SLA printed in transparent resin

A fantasy castle on a rocky outcrop, printed in transparent resin on an SLA printer. Pointed towers, arched windows and the curved outer wall stay crisp, and daylight passes through the whole piece.

This castle model sits on a craggy rock base and was printed on an SLA resin printer in transparent resin. According to the post, the 3D model was based on two European castles.

What the print shows

  • a cluster of towers with sharp conical roofs and small spires;
  • tall arched windows and pilasters on the main hall;
  • a curved, crenellated outer wall wrapping round one side;
  • a rough rock base with hanging spikes, like the underside of a cliff.

Because the resin is clear, light changes the piece completely. On a window ledge it glows amber at the base and grey-clear at the towers; on a table it reads more like glass.

Why resin for this

The spires end in fine points and the windows are only a few layers deep. Resin printing keeps those edges sharp, and a clear resin lets the internal shapes show through. It is a good test of how a printer handles tall, thin features and overhangs together.
