This miniature sport bike was printed on PrototypeBD's SLA resin printer. It is small enough to rest in the middle of an open hand, yet the frame, fairing and wheels keep their shape at that size.

What the print shows

  • front brake discs with their drilled pattern, visible behind the front wheel;
  • multi-spoke wheels with a raised tyre edge;
  • a silver swingarm and exhaust, red indicators and a small number plate holder at the tail;
  • a separate set of wheels printed upright on a raft of thin resin supports, which is how small round parts are kept true.

The finished model is shown in black with silver and red details.

Why resin for this

At this scale a filament printer's layer lines and nozzle width would swallow the spokes and brake discs. A resin printer cures each layer with light, so thin features stay sharp and surfaces come out smooth enough to paint. The trade-off is clean-up: supports have to be clipped and the part washed and cured before it is handled.

Painting and assembly are available on request.
