A display model of a 1944 Willys jeep, given a playful off-road look with oversized tractor-tread tyres. PrototypeBD 3D printed and assembled it.
A kit made only of printed parts
The design is a complete model kit. It needs no screws, axles or other parts that are not printed, and the wheels still spin. It is divided into many separate pieces so each can be printed in its own colour instead of painted:
- a red body, bonnet, mudguards and folding windscreen frame;
- black seats, dashboard, steering wheel, bumper and tyres;
- grey headlights, spotlights and exhaust tips;
- orange rear lamps and a small red-and-white number plate.
The details
The tyres carry a deep chevron tread, the grille has the familiar vertical slots, and the cabin has a dashboard, steering wheel and two rows of ribbed seats. Side mirrors stand up on thin stalks next to the windscreen.
Printing each part in colour gives a clean finished look straight off the printer, with no painting. It makes a good desk piece, gift or collector's model.
