This bicycle chain cover was designed and fabricated at PrototypeBD, as the post says. It is a long, closed guard that runs from the chainring to the rear hub.
How it is designed
- Two shells: the black body splits along its length into two halves, so it can be fitted around the chain instead of threaded over it.
- Openings: a large round opening at the front end and a smaller rounded opening at the back, with recessed bosses around both.
- Window frame: a separate white frame sits in a slot between the shells and outlines a cut-out window in the middle.
- Fixings: small holes at the rear end and a lug on one shell.
Why model it this way
A cover this long is easier to print, fit and replace as separate pieces. Splitting it in CAD also allows two colours without painting: the black shells and the white frame are printed separately and then put together. The photos show a smooth surface finish on the black shells and a tight seam where the halves meet.
